Help and frequently asked questions

Everything people usually ask about FreeMedia: what it is, why it's free and how it works.

What FreeMedia is

FreeMedia brings together in one place the free, legal content already scattered across the internet: public domain films, copyright-free books, Creative Commons music, public TV channels, open podcasts and university courses. We host and copy nothing — we link to or embed the original sources, always within their terms of use.

Is it really free?

Yes. The whole catalogue is free, with no sign-up and no card required. There's an optional Premium plan with extra features, but no content sits behind a paywall.

Is it legal?

Yes, and it's the whole point. We only include public domain works, Creative Commons licensed material, or titles hosted on legitimate free ad-supported platforms (RTVE Play, Pluto TV, Tubi, Internet Archive…). We don't link to pirated copies and we reject sources that offer them.

Do I need an account?

Not to watch anything. An account only syncs your favourites, history and lists across devices.

Why do some titles send me to another site?

Some works are free but can only be watched on the platform hosting them. In those cases we take you straight there instead of embedding it, because embedding would breach their terms. You'll see a separate "Where to watch" section, distinct from what plays here.

What does Premium include?

Stremio and Nuvio addons, an IPTV player with EPG, a synced library, an ad-free experience and early access to new features. The free catalogue stays exactly the same.

What data do you keep about me?

Without an account, nothing that identifies you: your preferences live in your own browser. Our analytics uses no cookies and builds no profiles. With an account, we store your email and whatever you choose to sync. You can delete your account and all its data at any time from My account.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The site adapts to phones and tablets, and you can install it as an app from your browser menu to open it like a native one — even offline for what you've already seen.
